Her mother is Cynthia Louise Bissett vice president of mobile company Verizon. Joseph Anthony Germanotta Jr. was director of the company that runs an internet networking network. She was raised in an elite Upper East Side neighborhood of Manhattan in her Catholic family. To get around this, her parents enrolled at the Convent of the Sacred Heart which is a revered and prestigious school. Her love of music as a child she learned to play the piano. When she was thirteen she composed her very first song. On open mic nights, she was a favorite. Her most loved singers included Queen Michael Jackson Madonna and David Bowie. When she finished high school she was accepted into the Tisch School of Art of New York University to study music. However, she didn't finish her studies and resigned in order to pursue a musical career.
